A Comprehensive Review on Planar Magnetics and the Structures to Reduce the Parasitic Elements and Improve Efficiency

Abstract: Due to the need for highly efficient and compact power electronic converters to operate at higher frequencies, traditional wire-wound magnetics are not suitable. This paper provides a comprehensive review of planar magnetic technologies, discussing their advantages as well as associated disadvantages. An extensive review of the research literature is presented with the aim of suggesting models for planar magnetics. Several strategies are proposed to overcome the limitations of planar magnetics, including windi… Show more

“…Correlations Indexes between ∆𝜺 𝒙 and Cosmic Weather Variables (Dcx, N) We also search for correlations in those parts of the curves just after the jump. Here it can be seen that the result of the correlation analyses matches with one of the observations performed in [8]. In that paper, it was intended to derive under which circumstances one could observe correlations between decay rates and Dcx and/or N. In Table 1, the correlations between the considered variables are presented (Pearson's correlation coefficients show a correlation between ∆ε ′…”

“…Furthermore, in [8], additional insights are provided via a review of planar magnetics and structures designed to reduce parasitic elements and enhance efficiency. This review encompasses various strategies and technologies aimed at optimizing the performance of layered structures in terms of capacitance and overall electrical characteristics.…”

“…As illustrated in Figure 2, the transformer exhibits leakage inductance (LL), winding capacitance (CW), and various parasitic components. The LCC resonance converter can incorporate these elements into its network [41,42]. Converters designed with these characteristics offer notable benefits, including enhanced efficiency, advantages in high-frequency systems, and the ability to mitigate low voltage imbalances.…”

“…[13] analyzed the parasitic capacitance in series and parallel windings, and used the method of combining the series and parallel windings to reduce the parasitic capacitance of the inductor. Methods for reducing the parasitic parameters of planar magnetic components were summarized in [14], and it was verified that the parasitic capacitance can be effectively reduced by optimizing the winding design. Reducing current ringing can decrease the EMI issues of converters, as demonstrated in [15][16][17][18]; thus, mitigating current ringing is an important technique to reduce the EMI problems in converters.…”
