“…Issues associated with ODS, such as lack of oxidant selectivity, unwanted side reactions, undesirable residual S-containing aromatic moieties due to incorrect choice of extraction solvent, and high cost, are carefully weighed against the benefits linked with this process that cannot be achieved in conventional HDS process. For more information, we direct our readers to some new reviews that have appeared in literature focusing on ODS catalysts for clean environment, ODS of heavy oils with high sulfur contents, ODS using heteropolyacid-based catalysts, and ultrasound assisted ODS of hydrocarbon fuels [ 63 , 64 , 65 , 66 , 67 ].…”

“…But SO x is obtained due to contamination of the fuel itself, and, accordingly, these impurities in some cases can (and should) be removed before burning; for this, hydrodesulfurization (HDS) processes at petroleum refineries are used. The permissible amount of sulfur compounds in diesel, gasoline, and kerosene is subject to stringent international standards [47,48].…”

“…Several methods have been studied to reduce SO x emissions. One of the most important is the process of sulfur removal from oil products, introduced in the world [47,48]. The results achieved have significantly reduced SO x emissions, so gasoline engines currently pollute the atmosphere to a minimum.…”

“…Transition metal (Mo, Ti, V, W, etc.) composites have been widely studied as active phases in ODS for the removal of large molecular thiophenic compounds, such as dibenzothiophene and its alkyl derivatives [6,7]. However, Mo-, V-, and W-based catalysts are most commonly used with hydrogen peroxide as an oxidant, which causes a different layer to be formed from the fuel oil and requires the use of a co-solvent, acetonitrile in most cases.…”
