Ahmer Ali Siyal,
Radin Maya Saphira Radin Mohamed,
Rashid Shamsuddin
et al.

Abstract: This paper reviews synthesis kinetics and formation mechanism of geopolymers. The literature studies provided new information, and development of advanced techniques is required to study synthesis kinetics and formation mechanisms further.

“…A higher pH value of the alkaline activation solution favors the solubility of the precursors. Geopolymerization is favored by the reactivity of the alkaline solution [48][49][50]. The low-heat Portland cement has a lower shrinkage than medium-heat Portland cement and ordinary Portland cement, due to the degree of hydration owned to alkali sulfates.…”

“…“geopolymer” refers to amorphous aluminosilicate networks of Na + or K + [ 15 ], formed through alkaline activation, known as synthesis or polymerization. The reactive materials have a chemical composition rich in silica and alumina and contain high amounts of highly energetic solid phases, such as fly ash, steel slag, and rice husk ash [ 16 ]. Notably, the raw materials used to produce geopolymers are characterized by shallow calcium content.…”
