A Comprehensive Review of Holistic Indicators for Seismic Vulnerability Assessment of Malaysia

Abstract: Due to the complex nature of seismic vulnerability assessment, different approaches and data are required, based on the country. Alternatively, seismic vulnerability assessment can be categorized into two common techniques, the conventional and holistic methods, the use of which depends on the region's conditions. Generally, conventional methods concern the consequences of an earthquake by estimating the potential loss caused by the structural inventory damage and the number of casualties. Meanwhile, holistic … Show more

“…Microzonation plays a significant role in enhancing the comprehension of soil susceptibility, particularly in regions prone to earthquakes like the Petobo post-liquefaction area in Palu, Central Sulawesi. The significance of microzonation lies in its capacity to offer a comprehensive characterization of the specific geological and geotechnical conditions within a particular region, thereby facilitating a more accurate evaluation of the susceptibility of soil to seismic events (Atalić et al, 2019;Foti et al, 2019;Sauti et al, 2023). By employing the Horizontal to Vertical Spectral Ratio (HVSR) method and considering other pertinent parameters at the microscale, researchers are able to assess GSS values.…”
