A comprehensive process of reverse engineering from 3D meshes to CAD models

Abstract: h i g h l i g h t s • Primitive extraction: detect primitive which corresponds locally to the 3D mesh. • Adjacency relation determination: define the relationship between primitives. • Wire construction: based on the intersection curves between neighboring primitives. • B-Rep creation: that works even in the case of an outline on a periodic surface.

“…Though having the advantage of high accuracy, it needs point by point measurement with very low speed. The International Conference on Artificial Intelligence: Technologies and Applications (ICAITA 2016) main methods of non-contact type consist of laser triangulation measurement method, laser distance method, optical interference method, image analysis method and so on [4]. It has the characteristics of fast acquisition speed, higher accuracy and great price advantage, which has the most extensive RE application.…”

“…Bénière et al [2] compute discrete curvatures with formula 1 for each neighbor of P, and apply the linear regression of [5]. In our work, we prefer to use this approximation because it is more accurate.…”

“…We use the curvature approximation from Bénière et al [2] who incorporates two other methods [5,8]. Then, a distribution is constructed continuously by a kernel estimation from all of the curvature values.…”

“…Building Information Models (BIMs) are increasingly being applied throughout a building's lifecycle for various applications [1][2][3]. Nowadays, non-contact measuring systems are rising in engineering metrology due to their efficiency when measuring parts that could not be measured using coordinate measuring machines or could be measured very complicated [4][5][6][7]. Reconstruction of 3D surface geometry is an active research area in both computer vision and computer graphics.…”
