The time for planting and haulm pulling is very crucial for production of quality of seed potato tuber. Thus, the different planting times i.e., 15th October, 4th November, 24th November, and 14th December, and haulm pulling (HP) at 68, 75, 82, and 89 days after planting (DAP) were evaluated to find out the suitable planting time and haulm pulling time for disease-free potato seed production. This study was conducted in the research field of the Plant Pathology Department, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU), Dinajpur during 2016-2017. The maximum seed potato tuber yield (23.9 ton/ha) was recorded from 4th November planting time with haulm pulling at 82 days after planting. The findings also exhibited that the minimum disease infestation was observed in the same treatment combinations which enhanced the maximum photosynthesis and growth for the plants resulting in higher seed potato yield. “…De acuerdo con las observaciones de campo, se determinó la presencia del patógeno, mediante las manifestaciones correspondientes a brotación tardía y escaso número de brotes, como también enrollamiento foliar en la etapa de floración de las plantas, lo cual está asociado respectivamente a la presencia de chancros necróticos en la base de los tallos principales cerca de la parte radicular, como a la pudrición apical de raicillas y estolones, esta característica multisintomática se puede deber a su variabilidad genética (Ferrucho et al, 2013;Kumar et al, 2017). En la etapa de floración, se incrementa la actuación de R. solani sobre los tejidos subterráneos más jóvenes como son las partes apicales de raicillas y estolones, ocasionando interferencias metabólicas vía haces vasculares, lo que en consecuencia conduce a enrollamiento parcial o total de las ramas foliares (Bienkowski et al, 2010;Kumar et al, 2017) (Figura 2). La localidad de Ipiales presentó el menor valor de afectación probablemente debido a que el terreno de esta localidad, tiene un suelo liviano con textura franco arenosa, conduciendo a menor retención de humedad, lo que desfavorece la dispersión y colonización del patógeno (Tsror, 2010).…”

El principal objetivo de esta investigación fue determinar el beneficio de las especies Avena sativa L. (avena), Hordeum vulgare L. (cebada), Sinapsis alba L. (mostaza) y Rhaphanus rhaphanistrum L. (nabo forrajero) como abonos verdes para controlar la incidencia de la costra negra y el cancro del tallo (Rhizoctonia solani Kühn) en la producción de papa Diacol Capiro. Se utilizó un diseño de bloques al azar con tres repeticiones. La incidencia de R. solani se determinó mediante observación de síntomas asociados a brotación tardía y enrollamiento foliar en las etapas de emergencia y tuberización. Se cuantificó el peso promedio de tubérculos grandes y medianos y el rendimiento comercial. Los resultados mostraron disminuciones en la enfermedad en aproximadamente 5% con los abonos verdes e incrementos de papa comercial sobre las 5t. ha -1 . Se concluye que todas las especies utilizadas como abonos verdes mostraron menor incidencia de la enfermedad e influyeron positivamente en los rendimientos de tubérculos, sobresaliendo el comportamiento de la cebada.

“…This is also known as Rhizoctonia disease complex in potato and causing in all the potatoes around the world. The symptoms of this disease include the appearance of dark brown to black colored small hard compact bodies sclerotia (Kumar et al, 2017) on the potato's surface, the irregularly shaped sclerotia (Malik et al, 2014) vary in size from small, flat, barely detectable blotches to the raised large lumps tightly bound to the skin of the tubers and stems in stem cankers. The fungus survives under warm and hard conditions in the form of hard masses of cells called sclerotia when the temperature is cold and moist the fungus germinates again.…”

The current study was designed to determine the efficacy of Trichoderma against soil borne pathogen Rhizoctonia solani causing Black scurf disease in potato. Five various species of Trichoderma (Trichoderma herzianum, Trichoderma asperellum, Trichoderma viride, Trichoderma hamatum and Trichoderma helicum) were screened in vitro against Rhizoctonia solani via Dual culture technique. Amongst the antagonists Trichoderma herzianum, Trichoderma viride and Trichoderma helicum was found to be more potent in inhibiting the mycelial growth of Rhizoctonia solani. The results indicate that Trichoderma helicum and Trichoderma viride showed significant growth in suppressing the mycelial growth of Rhizoctonia solani thus a highest inhibition percentage 71.8% was attained however, the Trichoderma herzianum, Trichoderma asperellum and Trichoderma hamatum showed mycelial percentage of 71.45%, 68.2% and 64.5% respectively. It is therefore concluded that an insignificant inhibition percentage 64.5% was shown by Trichoderma hamatum and found to be least effective in reducing mycelial growth as well as sclerotia formation of the test pathogen Rhizoctonia solani. However Trichoderma is good biocontrol agent and therefore can be used against Black scurf disease of potato.
