A Comprehensive Method for Water Environment Assessment considering Trends of Water Quality

Abstract: Water quality is a significant issue, and its assessment plays an important role in environmental management and pollution control. In this paper, we proposed a comprehensive water quality assessment method which takes into account both absolute and temporal trends in water quality. As the first step, we derived and applied a comprehensive pollution index (CPI) to characterize water pollution in 16 major tributaries to the Danjiangkou Reservoir, located in the upper reaches of the Hanjiang River in China. Next… Show more

“…NH 3 -N is significantly negatively correlated with DO and positively correlated with TN. The reason is that TN refers to the total nitrogen content in various forms of inorganic nitrogen (nitrate nitrogen, nitrite nitrogen, ammonia nitrogen) and organic nitrogen in water [34][35][36]. When large quantities of domestic sewage, farmland wastewater or industrial wastewater containing nitrogen are discharged into the water, the content of organic and inorganic nitrogen compounds in the water and the total nitrogen content increase, and biological and microbial species reproduce in large quantities, so that the dissolved oxygen in the water is increased [37].…”

“…This has made research more important in finding the maximum amount of human-made stress that can be put on natural systems, especially in getting a full picture of the environment [1,2]. Presently, the term "comprehensive environmental assessment" is fraught with ambiguity due to the diverse nature of the objects under evaluation, encompassing individual entities, their aggregates, and parameter aggregates used for object description [3][4][5]. This diversity is further compounded by variations in the objectives, methodologies employed, and the quantity of components subject to evaluation [6].…”
