Peng et al (2015) presented a comprehensive comparison of the temporal characteristics of 24 optical flares, 92 X-ray flares, and 102 GRB pulses, finding that: the flares and the pulses had the same lag-width relationship, and the evolution slopes were very close; and the dependencies of the pulse widths, rise widths, and decay widths on energies were the same as for the flare. Their results suggest a direct link between the physical mechanisms that produce the flares and the prompt emission in GRBs.…”
