A Comprehensive Analysis of MicroRNA Expression During Human Keratinocyte Differentiation In Vitro and In Vivo

Abstract: Here, we report a comprehensive investigation of changes in microRNA (miRNA) expression profiles on human keratinocyte (HK) differentiation in vitro and in vivo. We have monitored expression patterns of 377 miRNAs during calcium-induced differentiation of primary HKs, and have compared these patterns with miRNA expression profiles of epidermal stem cells, transient amplifying cells, and terminally differentiated HKs from human skin. Apart from the previously described miR-203, we found an additional nine miRNA… Show more

“…21,[25][26][27] In human skin epidermis, multiple microRNAs are thought to regulate gene expression of keratins during keratinocyte differentiation in vitro and in vivo. 28 Therefore, it is speculated that microRNA-induced repression of the K13 gene translation might occur as posttranscriptional regulation in the oral keratinocytes.…”

“…A functional relationship between keratinocyte miRNAs and psoriasis was reported, and it was determined that miR-125b modulates abnormal keratinocyte proliferation in psoriasis by targeting FGFR2 (16,17). The miRNA expression pattern during human keratinocyte differentiation has also been investigated (18). One recent study analyzed UVB-dependent miRNA expression profile changes in keratinocytes (19).…”

“…In vitro studies suggest functions for miRNAs in epidermal keratinocyte differentiation (Hildebrand et al, 2011;Xu et al, 2011). miR-205 is highly expressed in epithelia and promotes keratinocyte migration in vitro (Ryan et al, 2006;Yu et al, 2010).…”
