Notwithstanding the impact of sustainable innovation on environmental management, its bearing on industrial performance remains hypothetical. Our study seeks to empirically investigate the link between sustainable innovation and industry performance in the United States by employing the generalized method of moments on a nine-year panel spanning from 2014 to 2022. The sample consists of 94 U.S industries, which covers about 7300 companies. The results show that sustainable innovation is not significantly related to industrial performance in the United States. However, it has a moderating effect on industrial output. The Arellano–Bond test, AR (2), confirms the robustness of our findings given the endogeneity assumption and model specifications, and the Hansen test confirms the validity of the instruments. This study expands our knowledge of the link between sustainable innovation and industry performance. A study of this kind is relevant in current times as the United States seeks to attain Sustainable Development Goal 9 by 2030. Further, it provides theoretical guidance on successful environmental management practices to enhance social welfare and maximize output.

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected the lives of everyone from almost every perspective. Research communities from many domains have contributed to quantifying and mitigating the influence of the ongoing pandemic. The public depend on news media for reliable information. At the start of the pandemic in March 2020, many news media articles started to report on quieter roads resulting from travel restriction and work from home mandates, but also more excessive speeding and more traffic fatalities. Although the news media’s representation of the crash-speed association is often not based on data-driven safety analysis, the extent to which the media place emphasis on such news content has never been adequately quantified. The current study performed content analysis and text mining (both text network analysis and topic modeling) to explore the representations of speed-crash association in news media (local, national, and international) to provide insights into the generated news content. Findings reveal that topics such as a surge in fatal crashes, careless driving, driving under the influence, law enforcement, and equity issues, as well as impacts on pedestrians and bicyclists, were frequently highlighted by local, national, and international news media during the pandemic era.

In recent years, many developing countries have consolidated rural primary schools, closed small community schools, and enlarged centralized schools, which can reduce the accessibility of education to many communities. Meanwhile, expanding road networks may enable people in far-flung communities to access schools more easily. To evaluate the impacts of both trends on spatial justice in access to education, it is important to examine spatial patterns of primary school accessibility and their predictors. How do the topographic features of villages and surrounding landscapes correlate with primary school accessibility in rural upland areas? Using a digital map route planning application, this study evaluates the primary school accessibility of each village in Nanjiang County, a mountainous county in southwest China. By evaluating relationships between primary school accessibility and village characteristics, this study provides evidence corroborating frequent claims that rural remote mountainous areas have poor primary school accessibility. Additionally, by analyzing the effects of elevation and ruggedness of villages and of the zone between villages and schools as well as the mechanisms driving these effects, we find that, contrary to expectations, with increasing village elevation, a village’s primary school accessibility first decreases and then increases. The ruggedness of the terrain upon which a village is built has no significant effect. The ruggedness of the zone between a village and its nearest school exerts significant effects. These findings demonstrate that the two policies have created a pattern of spatial injustice that disadvantages peripheral villages, illustrating the need to attend to topography in efforts to provide equitable school access in rural mountainous areas.
