A Comparison Study of Fiber Diameter's Effect on Characteristic Features of Donepezil/Curcumin‐Loaded Polycaprolactone/Polylactic Acid Nanofibers

Abstract: Nanofibers (NFs) offer an alternative option for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease (AD) by addressing unmet clinical problems. In this study, anti‐AD drugs, donepezil (DO) and curcumin (CUR), are loaded in polylactic acid/polycaprolactone NFs. The effect of fiber diameter on drug release behavior is mainly observed, and the successful loading of DO and CUR to NFs is demonstrated. The tensile strength of DO/CUR‐loaded NFs (DNFs) with lower fiber diameter is found to be higher. The working temperature is incr… Show more

“…Although PVA/GEL/CA/GEN nanofiber patch exhibited a swelling profile until the end of the 5th day, it was noticeable that it started to degrade after 5 days, similar to the other nanofiber groups. Aydin et al demonstrated that an increase in fiber diameter may cause an increase in swelling behavior . The higher swelling ratio of the PVA/GEL/CA/GEN nanofiber patches compared to the other groups may be associated with the higher diameter of the fibers.…”

“…Aydin et al demonstrated that an increase in fiber diameter may cause an increase in swelling behavior. 45 The higher swelling ratio of the PVA/GEL/CA/GEN nanofiber patches compared to the other groups may be associated with the higher diameter of the fibers. Structures exposed to PBS deteriorate over time lose their weight as they begin to dissolve in PBS.…”

“…The stretching of the C-O group was obtained at 1083 cm -1 [21,22]. The characteristic peaks of CUR were analyzed and the O-H stretching vibration belonging to the phenol group at 3232 cm -1 , -CH3 stretching vibration at 2906 cm -1 , C-O stretching vibration at 1024 cm -1 , bands of C=O and C-O (ether) groups at 1625 and 1589 cm -1 , -C-O elongation of OH single bond group at 1500-1400 cm -1 , specific peaks of C-H alkene group and C-H bending vibration at 700, 806 and 960 cm -1 were observed [23,24]. Considering all these characteristic peaks, the peaks at 2940, 1643, 1461, 1421, 1286, and 892 cm -1 were found compatible with the characteristic peaks of PLGA and PEG after analyzing of PNP.…”

“…The EU contents in the zein nanofiber samples were determined according to the method of Aydin et al (2022), with some modifications [48]. In brief, each nanofiber sample (15 mg) was placed in a dialysis bag containing 4 mL of ethanol aqueous solution (90%, v/v).…”
