A comparison of the monitors INVOS 3100 and NIRO 500 in detecting changes in cerebral oxygenation

Abstract: Changes in cerebral haemoglobin oxygenation state were reflected more accurately by INVOS 3100 than NIRO 500. The cause may be the different technology of the monitors, since INVOS 3100 eliminates the contribution of extracranial oxygenation.

“…Grubhofer et al (18) compared the INVOS 3100 (Somanetics, Troy, MI) and NIRO 500 (Hamamatsu Photonics) devices during and after hypocapnia. Although the overall correlation between the two devices was significant, changes in cerebral hemoglobin oxygenation state were more accurately measured by the INVOS 3100.…”

“…Schwartz et al (18) determined the mean value of CO in 18 healthy adults subjects as 68% ± 5%. On the other hand, Grubhofer et al (19) measured the mean CO values in the first three days of newborn premature infants as 54-65.7%, 61.9-82.3% and 67.8-80.1%, respectively. Isobe et al (20) determined CO as 67-74% when SpO 2 was above 95%.…”
