This study evaluated the dimensional stability of the poly-methylmethacrylate (PMMA) denture bases under the effect of different metallic flask closure techniques (FCT) and investment materials (IM). Sixty stone cast maxillary-wax base plate sets were randomly assigned to six groups (n ¼ 10) for the following treatments: 1 and 4-stone or silicone investments and flask closure with clamp; 2 and 5-stone or silicone investments and flask closure with RS system; 3 and 6-stone or silicone investments and flask closure with screws. PMMA denture bases were polymerized in a water bath at 74 C for 9 h. PMMA base-stone cast sets were sectioned at regions (R) of the canines, first molars, and posterior palatal zone. Gap discrepancies were measured at five points: right and left ridge crests, palatal midline, and right and left marginal limits of the flanges. An optical micrometer with accuracy of 0.0005 mm was used for measurement purposes. Data were submitted to ANOVA and Tukey's test (a ¼ 0.05). Silicone showed an adaptation mean (0.177 mm) significantly different when compared with stone (0.207 mm). The RS system presented a statistically different adaptation mean (0.166 mm) in relation to the traditional clamp (0.200 mm) and flask with screws (0.211 mm). Adaptation values for the regions of the canines (0.141 mm), first molars (0.185 mm), and posterior palatal (0.250 mm) were statistically different. For all flask closure techniques, better adaptation was shown with the RS system and silicone investment.

This report describes a technique to obtain a 3D virtual representation of a maxillary edentulous patient guided by an additively manufactured intraoral scan body. The intraoral scan body incorporated a custom tray and occlusion rim which facilitated the acquiring of a digital definitive cast, maxillary occlusion rim position, interocclusal registration, and guided the integration of the facial scans. The technique simplified the design and manufacturing of the maxillary overdenture.

Background: 3,9-Dimethylene-1,5,7,11-tetraoxaspiro[5,5]undecane (DMTOSU) is a double ring-opening monomer that exhibits expansion upon polymerization and may be used as a denture base resin's comonomer to offset or minimize polymerization shrinkage. It's synthesis by transesterification reaction (TE) catalyzed by distannoxane is not reported in the literature. The synthesis became the prime concern because this monomer is hardly available commercially. Purpose: The purpose is to confirm the DMTOSU synthesis and compare the synthesized monomers obtained by two different catalytic processes through Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopies. Materials and Methods: Scheme I synthesis was by TE catalyzed by dichlorotetrabutyl distannoxane (DCBS) yielding M1 monomer. Scheme II synthesis was catalyzed by dibutyltin oxide-carbon disulfide (DBTO-CS 2 ) yielding M2 monomer. Results: The appearance of a characteristic peak at 1212 cm −1 in FTIR spectrum, a doublet at δ 4.95 in 1 H-NMR spectrum and a peak at δ 117.12 in 13 C-NMR spectrum confirmed the synthesis of DMTOSU-M1catalyzed by DCBS, which is not significantly different from DMTOSU-M2 catalyzed by DBTO-CS 2 . Conclusion: The catalytic action of DCBS is a successful alternative to the DBTO-CS 2 catalysis in DMTOSU synthesis.
