A comparison of quality of life and postoperative results from combined PPH and conventional haemorrhoidectomy in different cases of haemorrhoidal disease

Abstract: The PPH procedure performed in complex cases of the disease and combined with other surgical intervention because of the anorectal comorbidity assures better early postoperative results and better postoperative quality of life in a 6-month follow up in comparison with conventional haemorrhoidectomy. The continuation of quality of life studies with a longer follow up is required concerning Longo operation.

“…In contrast, those who underwent EH the most significant improvement occurred in the early postoperative period at six weeks. (6) This data lead us to assess our patients beyond the six-month period in order to see how patients who undergo SH or EH do in the longer-term. We looked at QOL at a median follow-up of 50 months.…”

“…(4) However, there is evidence that SH can be associated with higher post operative complication and re-intervention rate compared to conventional EH. (5,6) Despite proven early postoperative advantages for SH the long-term benefits and effect on patients quality of life (QOL) compared to EH still remains to be debated. This has led to further studies comparing longer-term morbidity between both techniques.…”

“…Komplikationen nach einer Hämorrhoidentherapie werden abhängig von Defi nition und Verfahren in sehr unterschiedlicher Häufi gkeit beobachtet [68,[77][78][79][80]. Während die einzelnen therapiespezifi schen Komplikationen in den jeweiligen Kapiteln abgehandelt werden, ist es das Ziel dieses Kapitels mögliche Behandlungsvorschläge bei eingetretener Komplikation zu beschreiben.…”

“…The quality of life in patients undergoing hemorrhoidectomy is increasing with improvements in surgical technique, less, postoperative complications and shorter length of hospital stay (6,7,(15)(16)(17). In this study there was an increase in the postoperative physical functions (p<0.01) and decrease in, physical role limitation and pain perception (p<0.01) in patients who underwent stapled hemorrhoidectomy for hemorrhoidal disease.…”
