“…Granisetron was superior to the combination of prednisolone plus metopimazine in the treatment of acute nausea and vomiting during the first cycle of chemotherapy. CR on day 1 was obtained in 68.8% of the patients treated with granisetron in accordance with the results in other trials investigating a 5-hydroxytryptamine 3 (5-HT 3 ) antagonist (Bonneterre et al, 1990;Kaasa et al, 1990;Marty, 1990;Jones et al, 1991;Marschner et al, 1991;Warr et al, 1991;Italian Group for Antimetic Research, 1995b). When the trial was initiated granisetron was available in Denmark for intravenous use only.…”

“…In randomised studies it has been proven superior to both placebo (Cubeddu et al, 1990) and high dose metoclopramide (Marty et al, 1990) in controlling cisplatin induced emesis. In non-cisplatin containing chemotherapy regimens it has been shown superior to metoclopramide in four randomised studies (Schmoll, 1989;Kaasa et al, 1990).Vomiting after most chemotherapeutic agents tends to start within a couple of hours of treatment. The onset of vomiting after carboplatin, however, is often delayed for 6-1O h (Calvert et al, 1982) and there is no previous study of the effect of ondansetron on carboplatin induced vomiting.…”

“…In cyclophosphamide and antracycline combination regimens, OND used as single antiemetic drug has proved to be superior to MCP (6,7) in treating acute nausea and emesis, and comparable to MCP combination regimens (8) and dexamethasone used as monotherapy respectively (9). In breast cancer patients receiving moderately emetogenic CT, the combination of OND and dexamethasone is significantly better than MCP and dexamethasone in the control of acute and delayed nausea and emesis over 6 courses of treatment (10).…”
