Characterizations of plant genetic resources based on molecular markers have been increased in the last years. Studies using a broad range of markers applied on hundreds of plant species are the theoretical basis for inferring genetic diversity to propose both breeding and conservation strategies. Despite increased importance of molecular characterization in plant genetic resources, there is scarce information about analysis of this type of data. To fill this gap of information, this review discuss the rationale behind analyses achieved to study genetic relationship among accessions (within and between groups) and to identify accession, and also discuss the adequacy of some analyses and/or parameters for specific purposes. Genetic diversity within groups may be either quantified for the whole group (parameters to choose will depend on type of marker), or quantified and visualized for the relationships among individuals. Quantification parameters will be chosen depending on type of marker, reproduction mode and relatedness of individuals. Visualization is achieved by hierarchical and nonhierarchical methods. Genetic diversity between groups should be quantified either by analysis of molecular variance, or Nei's parameters, or Wright's F-statistics. Efficiency of accession identification can be evaluated by maximal probability of identical match by chance and number of resolved genotypes.

Mulberry leaves had been used as material of medicine, drink, and functional foods in many countries, but the variety suitability for different applications is still not clear. In this study, the nutritional and phytochemical components of mulberry tender shoots from 19 varieties in China were investigated. Obvious genotypic diversity was observed in all the assessed components. The contents of crude protein (CP), total soluble sugars (TSS), crude fiber (CF), 1-deoxynojirimycin (DNJ), total phenolic (TP), and total flavonoid content (TF) were 27.63-37.36 g/100 g dry weight (DW), 58.71-150.31 mg/g DW, 9.90-13.85 g/100 g DW, 0.08-1.12 mg/g DW, 8.76-20.26 mg gallic acid equivalents (GAE)/g DW, and 21.36-56.41 mg rutin equivalents (RE)/g DW, respectively. Chlorogenic acid, rutin, isoquercitrin, and astragalin were considered to be mainly potential antioxidant compounds in mulberry leaves. According to the result of correlational analysis, principal component analysis (PCA), and hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA), the NS14 variety had high comprehensive healthy properties. GS8, D10, XS, TP2, and DHS could be appropriate materials for functional food or drink because of high content of phenolics or DNJ. Some varieties may have a potential application as protein-rich vegetables. The study suggests that some variety of mulberry could be selected and utilized rationally for their dietary properties. Genetic characterization plays a key role in chickpea breeding programs since genetic base of the cultivated chickpea is narrow. This study aims to determine the genetic relationships among 23 cultivated chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) and 2 genotypes of Cicer reticulatum Ladizusing simple sequence repeat (SSR) molecular markers with 10 SSR primer pairs. A total of 58 alleles were detected at 10 loci. The number of alleles per locus ranged from 2 to 11, with an average of 5.8. The polymorphic information (PI) ranged from 0.074 (NCPGR42) to 0.806 (NCPGR28) with an average of 0.42. The genetic similarity among all accessions ranged from 0.10 to 0.90. Genotypes of C. reticulatum were considerably different from the cultivated chickpea. The cultivars of chickpea were divided into four groups while Er99 and Dikbas cultivars were genetically the closest each other. ICC 4958, 'microsperma' or desi' chickpea was found genetically the closest cultivar to Cicer reticulatum. It was suggested that different groups should be crossed in breeding programs to increase variations in chickpeas.
