“…They incorporated an array of aligned CNTs across a polymer film to form a well-ordered nanoporous membrane structure. After that researchers considered to incorporate CNTs as filler in mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) [13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20][21]. Tang et al [22] studied water transport behavior of chitosan/CNT membranes.…”

“…In recent years, several carbon membranes fabricated from other polymer blends have also been reported. Those include blending of PPO/polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP),9 PEI/PVP,11, 12 PAN/polyethylene glycol (PEG),7 PAN/PVP,7 PI/PEG,13 PI/PVP,8, 14 phenol formaldehyde novolac resin/PEG,15 and polybenzimidazole/PI 16. Kim et al8 fabricated carbon membrane from PI/PVP blends by varying the heat‐treatment conditions.…”

“…However, separation via Knudsen diffusion is limited since it is most suitable for systems with large molecular weight ratios. Considering the gas permeation behavior, it was found that the carbon membranes derived from 30 wt % PEG:PEI comprised of large pores (mesopores) since the minimum limit of pore diameter (d p ) for Knudsen diffusion to take place is d p > 2 nm [8]. The excessive amount of PEG in the blends, which produced carbon membranes with more and larger pores, explains the occurrence of this diffusion mechanism.…”

“…The concept of polymer blends was first proposed by Ozaki et al [5]. Since then, a lot of similar efforts were reported such as polyimide/polyvinylpyrrolidone (PI/PVP) [2], phenol formaldehyde novolac resin polyethylene glycol (PFNR/PEG) [6], polyetherimide (PEI)/PVP [7][8][9], poly(p-phenylene oxide (PPO)/PVP [10], polybenzimidazole (PBI)/PI [11], and PI/PEG [12].…”
