Bone repair has been a new approach in regenerative medicine especially by application of stem cells. Discovering a suitable combination of scaffolds to stimulate osteogenesis is one of the major concerns in this issue. Porous polymeric scaffolds such as poly l‐lactic acid (PLLA) have been attracted a lot of attention because of their biodegradability. In the present study, we have been coated Baghdadite on the plasma‐treated surface of PLLA and evaluated osteogenic potential of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). Adipose tissue‐derived mesenchymal stem cells (AD‐MSCs) were cultured on PLLA and PLLA–Baghdadite scaffolds, and cell properties were characterized by MTT assay, scanning electron microscope, and FTIR analysis. Then, osteogenic differentiation potential of AD‐MSCs has been investigated, such as alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity, calcium mineral deposition, and the expression of bone‐related genes (RUNX2, ALP, and OCN). The results have been indicated that calcium content and ALP activity of cells cultured on PLLA–Baghdadite nanofibers were higher than that of tissue culture polystyrenes (TCPs). Gene expression analysis showed that PLLA–Baghdadite had effectively induced osteogenesis‐related genes. Taken together, these results suggest that porous nanofiber scaffolds which coated with Baghdadite can enhance osteogenic differentiation of AD‐MSC, and PLLA–Baghdadite can be used as a new biodegradable scaffold for bone regeneration. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Human shoulder is considered to be an important flexible and movable part in the human body. However, it is a wobble joint as its range of motion (ROM) is high. This unstable status causes the rate of joint injury. The processes leading to shoulder joint dysfunction are arthritis, hemiarthroplasty failure, and pseudoparalysis; in turn, one of the main factors contributing to these problems is rotator cuff tear (RCT). Reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA) may be a proper treatment for shoulder dysfunction and pain. This treatment that elevates shoulder movement has been augmented by recent advances in the development of the reverse shoulder prosthesis (RSP) design. The current review highlights the recent developments, revisions, and complications. The review of the published literature has been done to determine the overall rates of problems, complications, reoperations, and revisions after RSA. Furthermore, this review discusses the problems concerning RSP, shoulder joint replacement, and improvement in shoulder joint movement after arthroplasty. Ultimately, an outcome of different endeavors of the researcher was summarized. The endeavor of the current review indicates that RSA is a valuable alternative that can increase forward elevation, improve function, and relieve pain.

Bone is a self-engineered structural component of the human body with multifaceted mechanical strength, which provides indomitable support to the effective functioning of the human body. It is indispensable to find a suitable biomaterial for substituting the bone as the bone substitute material requirement is very high due to the rate of bone fracture and infection lead to osteoporosis in human beings increases rapidly. It is not an easy task to design a material with good apatite deposition ability, a faster rate of dissolution, superior resorbability, high mechanical strength, and significant bactericidal activity. Since the synthetic hydroxyapatite was not able to achieve the dahlite phase of hydroxyapatite (natural bone mineral phase), silicates emerged as an alternate biomaterial to meet the need for bone graft substitutes. All silicates do not exhibit the properties required for bone graft substitutes, as their composition and methodology adopted for the synthesis are different. Calcium, magnesium, and silicon play a major role in the formation of bone mineral and their metabolism during bone formation. In this review, the relationship between composition and activity of calcium, magnesium-based silicates have been discussed along with the future scope of these materials for hard tissue engineering applications.
