A comparative study on the blood and milk cell counts of healthy, subclinical, and clinical mastitis Karan Fries cows

Abstract: Aim:The present study was aimed to study the use of cell counts as an early indicator of mammary health.Materials and Methods:Milk and blood cell counts were estimated from 8 healthy, 8 subclinical (SCM), and 8 clinically mastitis (CM) groups of Karan Fries (KF) cows. Results:Total leucocyte counts and neutrophil percent in blood and milk somatic cells and milk neutrophil percent of healthy cows increased significantly (p<0.05) in SCM cows and CM cows. Viability of blood and milk neutrophils was more in healthy… Show more

“…Interestingly, no significant changes in blood cell counts were found between mastitis and control cows or between SCM and CM animals. This is in contrast with what was observed by Alhussien et al (2015), where total leukocyte counts of CM cows were higher than those in SCM cows.…”

“…Moreover, presence of flakes in milk with no swelling of the gland or systemic illness indicate that experimental inoculation of S. aureus resulted in mild clinical mastitis. This diminished inflammatory reaction, possible associated to reduced immune response, corresponds to the in vivo model recently described for induced www.nature.com/scientificreports www.nature.com/scientificreports/ mastitis after S aureus udder infection 37 . Among infected quarters, treatment with AT-MSCs resulted in similar SCC compared to treatment with antibiotics or vehicle.…”

“…The cows were then divided into 3 groups viz. ; healthy (n=6), subclinical (n=6) and clinical mastitis (n=6) according to their SCC and California mastitis test in them [1]. The cows were managed as per the practices followed in the institute's herd and were offered ad lib green fodder and a calculated amount of concentrate mixture.…”
