A Comparative Study on Railway Accident Safety Statistics among Nations and Other Transportation Modes

Abstract: As a result of investment in railway safety since 2004, railway accidents have been reduced by half and we reached a high level of safety compared to other countries. But people are still worries about railway accident, and want safer railway. It is difficult to determine which level of safety must be achieved due to lack of comparative studies on railway safety among different countries and other transportation modes. In this study, a comparative study on railway accident statistics and various transportation… Show more

“…Park et al [5] developed accident scenario models for the risk assessment of railway casualty accidents by identifying hazardous events and hazardous factors by gathering various accident reports and information. Kwak [6] conducted a comparative study on railway accident statistics and various transportation modes and demonstrated that the results of this research can be used for the determination of weak areas of railway safety and the level of safety to be achieved. Hua et al [7] used text mining and natural language process (NLP) techniques to analyse railway accident reports.…”

“…Comparison of track utilization ratios with other countries[4,10,12] Table 3에 제시된 바와 같이 종사자 사망사고의 직접적인 원인중 87%는 운행중인 열차와 종사자의 접촉으로 발생하 였다.

Abstract Since reports on trip delays or incidents often appear as accident articles on the press, the social criticisms and concerns on the safety of the urban railway are increasing.…”
