A Comparative Study on Dry Sliding Wear Characteristics of Al2O3 and Bone Powder Filled Hybrid Composites

Abstract: The aim of the research was to develop E-glass/jute fiber reinforced epoxy composites with an addition of Al 2 O 3 and bone powder by using hand layup technique and to compare tribological properties of these composites under similar test conditions. The wear experiments were designed according to Taguchi's (L 27) orthogonal array with three control variables such as sliding velocity, filler content and normal load. The results indicated that the normal load for Al 2 O 3 and filler content for bone powder emer… Show more

“…In natural fiber reinforced polymer composites, several factors influence the manner in which composite materials absorb water. These factors include: fiber volume fraction, temperature, fiber nature, difference in water circulation within the composite, degree of crosslinking and crystallinity, diffusivity and the response between water and the polymer [124,125]. Moisture absorption into composite materials is driven by a major mechanism, known as diffusion.…”

“…The experimental results indicate that the coefficient of friction and wear rates are minimized with the addition of filler content to composites. E-glass/jute fiber reinforced epoxy composites are produced with an addition of Al2O3 and bone powder using hand layup Main effects plot for weight loss technique and a comparison for wear behavior of these composites is made at similar test conditions [134]. The Taguchi's (L27) design is applied for three control variables including sliding velocity, filler content and normal load.…”

“…The study reveals that addition of cenosphere filler to the bamboo-epoxy composite reduces its erosion wear rate. Deshpande and Rangaswamy [5] developed E-glass/jute fiber reinforced epoxy composites with an addition of Al2O3 and bone powder by using hand-lay-up technique and to compare tribological properties of these composites under similar test conditions. The wear experiments were designed according to Taguchi's (L27) orthogonal array.…”
