A comparative study on channel coding scheme for underwater acoustic communication

Abstract: There are various challenges in underwater acoustic communication (UWA) however bit error rate (BER) is considered as the main challenge as it significantly affects the UWA communication. In this paper, different coding schemes such as convolution, turbo, low density parity check (LDPC), and polar coding based on the t-distribution noise channel are investigated, and binary phase-shift keying (BPSK) modulation with a code rate of 1/2 has considered in the evaluation and analyses. The evaluation of these channe… Show more

“…Consequently, a profound study of them based on the characteristics of UWA channels is meaningful and promising for improving UWACS performance. However, the noise introduced in the above simulation work was Gaussian white noise or t-distribution noise [108]. To further verify the effectiveness of LDPC and polar codes in UWACSs, the BER performance of the coded BPSK modulation system under real noise was verified.…”

“…The main step of the channel coding procedure is partitioning the coding into several subsets. There are four common kinds of the channel coding schemes in UWA system including convolutional codes (CC), turbo codes, polar code and low-density parity check (LDPC) code [9]. As shown in Fig.…”

“…The channel coding techniques are adopted to reduce the high BER value in the UWA communication for the single carrier and multiple transmission [6]. In addition, several types of channel coding have been adopted to improve the BER performance such as polar code [7], convolution codes [8], turbo codes [9],…”
