A comparative study of the electrochemical properties of vitamin B-6 related compounds at physiological pH

Abstract: A comparative study of vitamin B6 group and related compounds in buffered solutions using electrochemical techniques has been performed at neutral pH. Irreversible bi-or tetraelectronic processes are observed for these substances, and the electron transfer coefficient (αn) calculated. It was concluded that either the first or second electron transfer were the rate determining step of the electrode process. The diffusion coefficient of these substances was calculated and the values given follow an inverse tende… Show more

“…3A and B, a single reduction peak was observed for both Py (at þ 0.8 V) and PLP (at þ0.75 V). According to the literature, the reduction peak of Py was attributed to the reduction of hydroxyl group present in the molecule to their saturated analog (Gonzalez-Rodriguez et al, 2012). But, the reduction peak observed for PLP is due to the presence of aldehyde group in the molecule.…”

“…Several papers deal with the determination of vitamin B 6 related compounds, mainly pyridoxine . Unmodified GC electrodes were used for determining pyridoxine and related compounds in pharmaceutical and urine samples. Glassy carbon was also used as substrate for sensors using ssDNA , chromium(III) hexacyanoferrate(II) , MWCNTs , poly(methylene green) with functionalized CNTs and Au‐CuO/MWCNT as modifiers.…”

“…Up to now, i.e., chromatographic [ 6 ], spectrophotometric [ 7 ], potentiometric [ 8 ], electrophoretic [ 9 ], chemiluminescence [ 10 ], and voltammetric [ 11 ] approaches were applied for vitamin B 6 determination. For VB 6 voltammetric detection, different kinds of working electrodes, such as glassy carbon (GC) [ 12 ], carbon paste (CP) [ 13 ], boron-doped diamond (BDD) [ 14 ], and mercury [ 15 ] electrode, were initially reported. In order to improve the analytical performance of a VB 6 electrochemical sensor, more and more functional materials have been used to fabricate chemically modified electrodes (CMEs).…”
