A Comparative Study of the Microbiological Efficacy of Polymyxin B on Different Carbapenem-Resistant Gram-Negative Bacteria Infections

Abstract: Objective: The emergence of carbapenem-resistant gram-negative bacteria (CR-GNB) has brought great challenges to clinical anti-infection treatment around the world. Polymyxins are often considered as the last line of defense in the treatment of CR-GNB infections. In this study, we explored the microbiological efficacy of Polymyxin B (PMB) on different CR-GNB infections as well as the factors influencing microbiological efficacy. Methods: CR-GNB infected patients with PMB-based regimens were enrolled. Clinical a… Show more

“…Moreover, MDR P. aeruginosa is one of the most important bacterial pathogens that cause infections with a high mortality rate ( 22 ). Colistin is considered the “last-line” therapy for treating infections caused by MDR Gram-negative pathogens ( 23 ). However, the resistance to colistin is constantly increasing among clinical isolates, including P. aeruginosa .…”

“…Few studies have investigated the microbiological efficacy of PMB for treatment of CR-GNB. 25 Here, we investigated the microbiological clearance rate of the total course of treatment and 7-day microbiological clearance, which were 39.42% and 29.45%, respectively. Our results showed that urinary tract infection and CRAB infection were independent risk factors associated with bacterial clearance following PMB treatment.…”

“…Tigecycline (TG) and polymyxin B (PB) have become the main and only antibiotics for the treatment of CRKP infections due to their lowest resistance [3]. They are often combined with other antibiotics for more e cacious CRKP treatment, such as carbapenems, cephalosporins, and sulbactam [4][5][6]. Three types of therapies are commonly used.…”
