A comparative study of P&O and INC maximum power point tracking techniques for grid-connected PV systems

Abstract: The electrical demand is quickly increased, and renewable energy sources are an indispensable need for supporting the electric grid and supplying the isolated loads. Renewable energy is found in numerous forms like solar energy, wind energy, tidal energy. Solar power system is clean, and large amounts of solar radiation arrive to the surface of the earth. This paper aims to maximize the amount of extracted electrical power from the solar energy system. This work investigates in detail the concept of MPPT techn… Show more

“…In general, MPPT control strategies tend to be complex and MPPT systems are typically implemented in a DC-DC power converter to provide power to different applications [12,5,6,13,14]. In terms of the MPPT algorithms, currently, one can find the application of diverse techniques (see, for example, [15][16][17] and [18,19]). In [18], the authors have presented a comparative analysis for the perturb and observe (P&O) and the incremental conductance (INC) techniques, which are the most widely used.…”

The MPPT algorithms must be implemented in an electronic converter, and the boost converter has shown to be the simplest [20,21].…”

“…Solar arrays are made by interconnecting PV modules in combined series and parallel, whose characteristics are the same as that of a single module [7]. The V-I characteristics of PV cell are non-linear and depend upon the intensity of sunlight and its temperature, due to the continuous varying atmospheric conditions, the efficiency of solar modules changes [8][9]. Several [10].…”

“…The merits above non-renewable fossil fuel based on power generation, like low contamination and high efficiency [4]. Solar system is one of the ersatz clean energy resources that are paid close interest by humans because, it is very significant to have an effective and suitable MPPT technique for the PV device [5]. There are several types of converter topology, between them we have chosen the most appropriate type which is boost-converter topology for our design, because it is widespread no isolated converter, its ability of increasing the voltage where it is also popular to have low speed wind and the impedance connected to the generator in our case need to be reduced to have it equal to the internal impedance in the generator.…”
