A Comparative Study of High-Frequency Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis and Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry for Estimating Body Composition

Abstract: Though bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) is a favorable tool for assessing body composition to estimate nutritional status and physical fitness, such as sarcopenia, there are accuracy issues. Hence, high-frequency (HF) BIA equipment uses an additional frequency of 2 and 3 MHz and has been developed as a commercial model. However, there are no studies validating the accuracy and safety of HF-BIA. Therefore, this study aims to assess the validity of HF-BIA in analyzing body composition relative to dual-ener… Show more

“…This minimizes the error of the InBody970 ® in many cases. However, the accuracy of estimates of body composition measured by the InBody970 ® instrument has been reported to be non-significantly higher than those measured by the InBody770 ® instrument ( 15 , 16 ).…”

“…This minimizes the error of the InBody970 R in many cases. However, the accuracy of estimates of body composition measured by the InBody970 R instrument has been reported to be non-significantly higher than those measured by the InBody770 R instrument (15,16). Waist circumference was calculated by measuring the right half of the subject's waist circumference by PA-BIA and multiplying it by two.…”

“…BWA2.0 is a multi-frequency BIA device that can measure on supine position. It uses eight different frequencies (1 kHz, 5 kHz, 50 kHz, 250 kHz, 500 kHz, 1 MHz, 2 MHz, and 3 MHz) ( 13 ). The subjects were asked to hold their limbs slightly away from their bodies, and measurements were performed according to the manufacturer’s instructions.…”

“…Compared to other methods, BIA is relatively simple, quick, and non-invasive. The DSM-BIA method used in the InBody 770 compared to the reference DEXA method is valid and reliable in populations of healthy athletes who are clinically and physically inactive (30)(31)(32)(33).…”
