“…However, due to the fact that it has been replaced by the ReCiPe method, the use of this method is proposed. The literature of the subject also uses assessment methods whose assessment result is presented in CO2 equivalent (e.g., IPCC 2013 GWP 100a or Greenhouses Gas Protocol) [27,28]. However, due to the way the results were presented, the ReCiPe endpoint (E) assessment method was used.…”

“…On the other hand, continuous cultivation has been reported to obtain higher microalgae activity as they are maintained in the exponential growth phase for longer (Assunção & Malcata, 2020; Umamaheswari & Shanthakumar, 2016). According to Yadav, Dubey, and Sen (2020), semicontinuous feeding is the most suitable option for large‐scale microalgae cultivation for its simplicity and ease of implementation. In this respect, González‐Camejo, Jiménez‐Benítez, et al (2019a) and González‐Camejo, Aparicio, et al (2020) operated a pilot‐scale MPBR system semicontinuously, only feeding the culture during light hours to increase microalgae activity.…”

“…pH control is often performed by injecting CO 2 (either pure or contained in flue gases), avoiding the carbon limitation of wastewater simultaneously (Acién et al, 2021;Assunção & Malcata, 2020). In this respect, Yadav et al (2020) reported an increase of 62% of microalgae cell density when CO 2 was added to the culture.…”

“…Cultivation of microalgae offers distinct advantages that ensure process viability and sustainability as feedstock for clean biofuel energy production (Chisti 2008;Li et al, 2008;Singh and Gu 2010;Carmichael et al, 2017;Yadav et al, 2020). The most important advantages include: 1) increased biomass production capability, 2) minimal nutrient requirements, fewer water needs and even possibility of using wastewaters containing residual nutrients and also no requirements for herbicides or pesticides, with expected environmental and economic gains, 3) less land demand, thus avoiding competition with other landbased crops also taking into account the potential for cultivation in non-arable areas, and 4) resistance of several species to salinity or even growth in marine environment with obvious benefits for cultivation in coastal areas.…”
