A comparative analysis of primary stenting and optimal balloon coronary angioplasty in acute myocardial infarction. Six month results from the STENT PAMI trial
Abstract:Objective -To compare the outcome of balloon PT-CA with final coronary stenosis diameter (SD) ≤30%, with elective coronary stenting.
Methods -We performed a comparative analysis of the 6 month outcomes in patients treated with primary stenting and those who obtained an optimal balloon PT-CA result treated during the first 12 hours of AMI onset included in the STENT PAMI randomized trial.
Results -The results were analysed into 3 groups: primary stenting (441 patients, SD=22±6%), optimal PTCA (245 patients), a… Show more
“…Quantitative coronary angiography with automatic edge detection was used to analyze the luminal changes [28][29][30] . Since 1994, all randomized series that tested the efficacy of stenting in AMI used the same technique, confirming its accuracy and reproducibility 2,[15][16][17][18][40][41][42][43] .…”

During AMI stenting, the use of high pressures (> or = 16 atm) did not cause a measurable improvement in late outcome, either in the late loss, its index, and the net gain, or in clinical and angiographic restenosis rates.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
