A comparative accuracy of Google Earth height with MyGeoid, EGM96 and MSL

Abstract: Abstract. This study aims to provide understanding on the accuracy of height derived from Google Earth (H GoogleEarth ) as compared to height obtained from Malaysian Geoid Model (H MyGeoid ), Mean Sea Level (H MSL ) and Earth Geoid Model 96 (H EGM96 ). Total of 50 established points with height acquired from H MyGeoid and H MSL were measured within UiTM (Universiti Teknologi MARA) Arau Campus. These points were also used to extract height from Google Earth and EGM96. Statistical results showed a good range of R Show more

“…Since the elevation data supplied by Google Earth still does not have the required accuracy [79][80][81][82][83], the elevation of the GCPs was estimated using a procedure that took advantages of Timex images properties. As seen in Section 1.2, the high-frequency swash oscillation on the beach is average out on Timex, therefore these images have been extensively used to identify the shoreline as land-water interface.…”
