Horn antenna designs are favored in many applications where ultra‐wide‐band operation range alongside of a high‐performance radiation pattern characteristics are requested. Scattering‐parameter characteristics of antennas is an important design metric, where inefficiency in the input would drastically lower the realized gain. However, satisfying the requirement for scattering parameters are not enough for having an antenna with high‐performance results, where the radiation characteristic of the design can be changed independently than the scattering parameters behavior. A design might have a high‐efficiency performance, but the radiation characteristics might not be acceptable. Furthermore, there are other design considerations such as size and volume of the design alongside of these conflicting characteristics, which directly affect the manufacturing cost and limits the possible applications. In this work, by using data‐driven surrogate modeling, it is aimed to achieve a computationally efficient design optimization process for horn antennas with high radiation performance alongside of being small in or within the limits of the desired application limits. Here, the geometrical design variables, operation frequency, and radiation direction of the design will be taken as the input, while the realized gain of the design is taken as the output of the surrogate model. Series of powerful and commonly used artificial intelligence algorithms, including Deep Learning had been used to create a data‐driven surrogate model representation for the handled problem, and 80% computational cost reduction had been obtained via proposed approach. As for the verification of the studied optimization problem, an optimally designed antenna is prototyped via the use of three‐dimensional printer and the experimental results ware compared with the results of surrogate model.

This paper introduces a gain‐enhanced, beam‐squint rectified balanced antipodal Vivaldi antenna (BAVA) with symmetrically sliced fins and a novel square‐shaped metallic labyrinth director. The proposed antenna operates from 2 to 18 GHz with S11 less than −10 dB maintaining a fractional bandwidth of 160%, realizes 12.564 dBi as maximum gain at 18 GHz, and achieves greater than 3.415 dBi gain throughout the functioning band of frequency. Improvement of broadside gain by reconfiguration of current loops through symmetric slicing of radiating flares and beam‐squint correction using quarter‐wavelength labyrinth director are addressed by the proposed antenna. The maximum realized size of the antenna is 80 × 40 × 0.508 mm3. Consistent radiation patterns are observed at selected frequencies. Numerical evaluation with a full wave simulation tool and consequent experimental validation with a compact antenna test range is performed.

Wideband Printed Antipodal Vivaldi Antenna using Straight Slots for UHF DVB-T/T2 Applications

This paper presents a wideband printed antipodal Vivaldi antenna using straight slots for UHF DVB-T/T2 applications covering a frequency range of 470–862 MHz. The proposed antenna consists of two radiation flares with straight slots and a feeding line. A wideband impedance matching was achieved by inserting the slots between the flares and the feeding line. For the experimental verification of the proposed antenna, it was fabricated on a flat circular printed circuit board (PCB) substrate with a radius of 0.25 λ0, where λ0 is the wavelength at 0.74 GHz (the center frequency of the operating band). The measured −10 dB impedance bandwidth and maximum gain were approximately 72.1% (0.47–1.00 GHz) and 2.57 dBi, respectively. Due to the addition of the slots, the impedance bandwidth of the proposed antenna was improved by approximately 212% compared with the Vivaldi antenna without slots.
