A compact implantable RFID tag antenna dedicated to wireless health care

Abstract: Implantable tag antennas are an integral component of contemporary pervasive patient monitoring setups envisioned to reduce the medical errors and improve the quality of health care facilities. These tags, embedded into the human body, transmit critical patient information to the external equipment via a wireless communication link. This research article presents an implantable compact folded dipole antenna of size 10 mm × 15 mm × 2 mm, designed to operate in the industrial‐scientific‐medical band (2.4‐2.48GHz… Show more

“…Integrating RFID antenna into wireless medical communication devices has become the mainstream of the research . A compact folded dipole antenna of a size of 10 × 12 × 2 mm 3 operating at 2.4‐GHz ISM band is proposed in Reference . The tag achieves a maximum gain of −16.3 dBi, and the measured reading range reaches 23 cm.…”

“…Use of additional lumped elements to attain impedance matching make the design bulky hence impedance matching techniques should be integrated along with the tag antennas. Some of the integrated impedance matching techniques utilize T matching loop embedded dipole structures, patch antenna with tuning slots and comb structure, short circuited capacitively coupled feed, dual radiating symmetrical patches with matching circuits using grounded vias and shorted edges etc.…”

“…Among the techniques of the third form of control access, we mention the identification systems that have been rapidly developed in recent years, mainly those of radio frequency identification (RFID) which are considered as an advanced technology for automatic identification applications and which are increasingly used in various fields . Current uses of the RFID technology include as examples points of sale, automatic vehicle identification systems, animal identification, asset tracking, logistics management, e‐passports, products, and raw materials tracking . Building access control presents a potential for RFID applications.…”

“…Currently, authentication systems based on RFID cards for access control widely utilize biometrics . Several authentication frameworks have been developed . Indeed, integrating the RFID technology and the biometrics for physical access control widely used to provide strong authentication through a tag that unambiguously identifies the holder.…”
