A Compact Dual-Broadband Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) Indoor Base Station Antenna for 2G/3G/LTE Systems

Abstract: In this paper, we propose a dual-broadband multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) indoor base station antenna for 2G/3G/LTE systems. The proposed MIMO antenna has a low profile with its overall dimensions of 220×220×42 mm 3 and utilizes both spatial and polarization diversities. The antenna operates at 800-960 and 1700-2700 MHz simultaneously, with the return loss of higher than 14 dB across both frequency bands. The isolations of the antenna are 18 and 25 dB, with antenna gains of 3.6 and 7.2 dBi for the lower… Show more

“…In Ref. [17], for 2G/3G/LTE systems, a dual-broadband MIMO indoor base station antenna was proposed to cover the frequency bands (800-960 MHz) and (1700-2700 MHz). The design has a low profile and simple feeding structure, but only two antenna elements were proposed to achieve MIMO operation and it can't cover higher frequency bands.…”

“…Two dual-band dual-polarized solutions are detailed in [15]- [16] with the use of an AMC reflector [15] operating at n78/n79 bands with an isolation of 20 dB and a second solution with the use of crossed monopoles [16] operating at n78 and 1.55-2.75 GHz bands. In addition, a dual-band antenna is presented in [17] based on a slotted microstrip patch and two monopoles working at 0.8-9.6 GHz and 1.7-2.7 GHz obtaining an isolation of 18 dB. Lastly a 3-D printed crossed dipoles are presented in [18] providing service to n77/n78/n79 bands with 18 dB isolation.…”

“…MIMO operation requires multiple port antennas with highly isolated ports and independent radiation patterns with a low Envelope Correlation Coefficient (ECC) between them. A compact dualbroadband (0.8-0.9 GHz, 1.7-2.7 GHz) MIMO antenna composed by a microstrip patch with slots and two monopoles for 2G/3G/4G/5G systems is presented in [7]. In addition, a fourport wide-band annular-ring patch antenna has recently been proposed in [8], working at 3.3-5 GHz band.…”
