A Compact 5G Decoupling MIMO Antenna Based on Split-Ring Resonators

Abstract: A compact planar multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna array for 5G band is proposed in this paper. To improve the isolation of compact microstrip antenna array, this paper mainly presents an electromagnetic resonant ring method for MIMO antenna array. The proposed antenna can cover both the 3.3-3.6 GHz and 4.8-5 GHz bands proposed for the 5G band. The antenna proposed in this paper consists of two symmetrical meandered monopole radiators, grid structures, and a Y-shape element. Two different sizes of … Show more

“…ere are many techniques for enhancing isolation by using Electromagnetic Band Gap (EBG) structures [28], Metamaterial Polarization Rotator (MPP) Wall [29], neutralizing line [8,30], Defected Ground Structure (DGS) [8,16], splitring resonators (SRRs) [31], metal strips [18], and selfdecoupled structure [7]. e goal of this paper is to propose a compact MIMO antenna operating at millimeter-wave frequency for fifthgeneration applications.…”

“…The absorption is achieved through a resistive pattern according to the original idea in [5]. Absorbers based on perfect metamaterials absorbers were recently proposed as a decoupling structure for 5G MIMO antennas [6]. The two first groups of solutions suffer from different drawbacks.…”

“…With the extensive research of electromagnetic metamaterials, it is common to use the idea of metamaterials for decoupling. The proposed metamaterial decoupling methods are mostly used in narrowband microstrip patch antenna 11 and narrowband meander line antenna 12 . Although above‐mentioned cases have good decoupling effects by using metamaterial, they are basically in a narrow band.…”
