SummaryInformation and communication technologies (ICTs) can play a crucial role in facilitating access to comprehensive information on the quality standards of Turkish hazelnut cultivars. In this regard, this study introduces a Hazelnut Databank System (HDS) that utilizes the microservices architecture, an integrated software system supported by the Internet of Things (IoT) and semantic web, to categorize Turkish hazelnut cultivars. The study focuses on developing microservices using various programming languages and frameworks. Specifically, C# on the .NET Core Framework was used for both microservices and the web‐based application implemented through the ASP.NET Core MVC Framework. Mobile‐based software applications were created using Xamarin. Forms, and the IoT application was developed using the Python programming language. The data storage is facilitated through the MS SQL Server database. Additionally, the study incorporates the implementation of a hazelnut species classification system using the DNN + ResNet50 machine learning model, achieving an impressive accuracy rate of 95.77%. The overall usability of the system was evaluated, resulting in a score of 42 out of 50. By providing detailed information on Turkish hazelnut cultivars, the HDS has the potential to greatly improve hazelnut production quality in Turkey and increase awareness of hazelnut agriculture among relevant stakeholders.

Customers energy consumption pattern affects directly the grid burden, especially during peak hours. In recent years, many different control methods have been proposed to shift the energy consumption to off-peak hours through demand response (DR) management. In order to have effective DR energy management, optimization has a key role. Thus, increasing the benefits for the customers and encouraging them to consider the new controlling approaches in their daily energy consumption pattern is needed for increased customer participation. On the other hand, renewables are integrated with the buildings to decrease the buildings' energy costs and dependency on the grid utilities. This study moves a step further and considers a few numbers of neighboring houses as an energy community. The community commits to sharing their produced energy from the individual distributed solar system with each other and increasing their energy selfsufficiency by minimizing the import and export of power from/to the grid. This research focuses on applying common electric heat energy storage when community's own solar PV generation is used to thermal energy generation/storing in heat storage and compares it with the case in which each house has its own distributed thermal energy storage. Then, different sized thermal storages are tested for the community to find the best solution. The results are compared in terms of import and export of energy, annual costs and the payback-time. It is concluded that the community with common thermal energy storage could decrease the energy exchange with the grid and the payback-time of the investments could be reduced for the community members.INDEX TERMS Demand response, energy community, renewable energy resources, sustainable energy community, thermal energy storage

Renewable-based microgrid energy management systems have emerged as a promising solution to address energy security, sustainability and resilience concerns. This paper offers a comprehensive exploration of the techniques, strategies and long-term viability of such systems. The purpose of the study delves into the implementation of smart management and control systems, which enable real-time data analysis, grid optimization and effective load management, thus maximizing the utilization of renewable energy and enhancing overall system efficiency. It demonstrates the significance of decentralized energy management and its role in fostering energy independence and sustainability within local communities and small-scale industrial setups. The paper further investigates the resilience and redundancy aspects of microgrids, highlighting the importance of autonomous operation during grid failures and emergencies. Thus, the incorporation of energy-efficient practices, appliances and demand-side management strategies to promote energy conservation and reduce overall energy consumption of solar power, wind power, hydro power, biopower and geothermal. The important outreach and training are creating environmentally friendly energy consumption and improving the long-term sustainability of microgrid energy control systems that rely on energy generated from renewable sources. The study seeks to enhance ecological energy handling techniques and the utilization of clean sources of energy by offering knowledge regarding the promise of the microgrid to become a versatile and environmentally friendly power solution via this examination.
