A Combustion Process Optimization and Numerical Analysis for the Low Emission Operation of Pulverized Coal-Fired Boiler

Abstract: The paper presents experimental and numerical investigation of pulverized coal combustion process analysis and optimization. The research was conducted on the frontfired pulverized coal boiler with dedicated low-NOx furnace installation. In order to find optimal boiler operating conditions the acoustic gas temperature measurement system and mass flow rate of pulverized coal measurement system was applied. The uniform temperature distribution as a result of uniform coal and air flow provides the optimal combust… Show more

“…This technology (Acoustic gas temperature measurement system) became possible with the use of acoustic methods of temperature measurement. So in the papers [10,17,19] detailed application of acoustic temperature sensors in combustion chambers of real power plants was described. The operating principle of this system is based on the realization of the functional dependence of the speed of sound on the temperature of the medium through which it propagates.…”

“…Insufficient steam flow causes temperature increase and thermal stresses in turbine stages. It is important to revise all of the control loops and measuring devices in case the of power unit operation at low loads to avoid exploitation and performance problems [7,17]. The steadystate simulation analysis of the power unit model shows a good accordance to reference operating data throughout the power unit operating range.…”
