A combined review of vibration control strategies for high-speed trains and railway infrastructures: Challenges and solutions

Abstract: People use trains as a means of transportation to travel to various nearby and distant destinations, resulting in an increasing amount of time spent inside such vehicles. Consequently, railway transportation sectors are focusing significantly more on enhancing passengers’ demand and level of satisfaction, including but not limited to high-speed travel, safety, and riding comfort. This paper provides a state-of-the-art review of available solutions for reducing undesired vibrations that have a substantial impac… Show more

“…However, vibrations near the natural frequency of the passive system are amplified. In practical applications, inertial sensors are often used to measure absolute velocities to produce skyhook damping, which attenuates vibrations near the natural frequency without affecting the high-frequency attenuation performance [ 3 , 4 , 5 ].…”

“…When trains run at high speeds, they generate ground vibrations. Problems relating to train-induced ground vibrations are now an engineering challenge in densely populated urban areas due to the increase demand of higher speeds and heavier loads [1][2][3][4][5]. Although ground vibrations induced by high-speed trains may not result in the collapse of buildings as earthquakes do, they can be strong enough to affect passenger safety, maintenance costs, and passenger comfort.…”

“…The railway industry holds immense significance in today's world, prompting several researchers to scrutinize crucial parameters in this sector [66][67][68]. The investigation and improvement of materials utilized in this industry are among the noteworthy parameters that warrant attention [69][70][71].…”
