A combined accelerator mass spectrometry/positron emission tomography microdose study to assess the plasma and brain tissue pharmacokinetics of 11C- and 14C-labelled verapamil in healthy volunteers
“…In a small study, Wagner et al measured the pharmacokinetic (PK) data of verapamil in plasma and brain by means of combined PET and AMS analysis using 11 C-and 14 C-labeled verapamil, respectively. Both methodologies showed linearity in PK data of verapamil within the employed dose range, thereby suggesting the utility of combining PET and AMS for obtaining precise plasma and PK data of target drugs [25].…”
Accelerator mass spectrometry analysis has an excellent correlation with biodistribution measurements using gamma counter. Our results suggest that the combination of AMS and PET can act as a complementary approach to accelerate drug development.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
