A combination of least significant bit and deflate compression for image steganography

Abstract: Steganography is one of the cryptography techniques where secret information can be hidden through multimedia files such as images and videos. Steganography can offer a way of exchanging secret and encrypted information in an untypical mechanism where communicating parties can only interpret the secret message. The literature has shown a great interest in the least significant bit (LSB) technique which aims at embedding the secret message bits into the most insignificant bits of the image pixels. Although LSB … Show more

“…Table 4 presents a comparison between the PSNR of our proposal with the studies [15,16], where the same cover image in size 512×512 pixels is adopted. Note that even though our proposal involves hiding more secret text (5440 bits) in the stego image, the PSNR is still high compared to baseline research.…”

“…Although there is increased imperceptibility in their work, the payload capacity is still low. A method that increases the payload capacity was proposed by Tayyeh and Al-Jumaili [16]. Their work was a combination of the LSB technique and deflate compression algorithms for image steganography.…”

“…Integrating compression algorithms with the Least Significant Bit (LSB) method is a common practice in digital data concealment (AbdelWahab et al, 2019;Jayapandiyan et al, 2020;Tayyeh & Al-Jumaili, 2022;Walker et al, 2023). This approach is widely adopted because it efficiently optimizes storage space while hiding information.…”

“…It can be used for applying different operations on secret data or cover images due to its properties in terms of improving security and also giving the hard-hitting time to attackers shown in Figs. 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 and 8 sequentially 47 , 48 , 54 . Let’s try to elaborate with the help of the example given below.…”
