content would serve as an effective analgesic to the pain of those previously lost dollars. Has CRKN made Canada a smarter, better educated country? No one can answer this question with any certainty, and empirical study will never ever be able to make such a determination. However, it would appear rather obvious that CRKN has been a major contributor in the development of a national research infrastructure. It is unknown what CRKN's future holds. The CFI and CRKN are creations of the former Liberal federal government, whereas Canada is now governed by the Conservative party. However, the Tories are in what we refer to as a "minority government" position (which in the UK is called a "hung Parliament") and, by the time of this article's publication, they could be out of office. Nonetheless, philosophically the Conservatives are less favourably disposed to expensive large-scale national initiatives than were their Liberal forerunners, which makes the survival of the programme beyond its current three-year term somewhat less certain. Conclusion CRKN stands as an example of what collaborative planning on a national scale can accomplish. In Canada it

Cross-campus collaboration for library website design and management can be challenging, but the process can produce stronger, more attractive, and more usable library websites. Collaborative library website design and management can also lead to new avenues for marketing library tools and services; expert consultation for library technology implementation; improved collegiality, respect, and communication between departments; and a richer understanding of patron needs. Recommended best practices for positive and productive cross-campus collaborations include assuming positive intent, thinking holistically, acknowledging and appreciating others' abilities, observing one another at work, and collecting and using data to drive decision making. In the summer of 2009, librarians and University Relations (UR) Web specialists at Azusa Pacific University (APU) worked together to redesign the University libraries' website. As a result of this collaboration, the University libraries were able to present a stable, attractive, feature-rich, and patron-friendly website to students and faculty at the start of the 2009-2010 academic year.A stronger, more usable library website was just one of the benefits of cooperation between librarians and campus Web specialists. Cross-campus collaboration in the library website redesign process at APU has also led to new avenues for marketing library tools and services; expert consultation for library technology implementation; improved collegiality, respect, and communication between departments; and a richer understanding of patron needs. The goal of this article is to describe a successful cross-campus collaborative approach to library website redesign and management and to demonstrate that this collaboration was ultimately beneficial to the library and its patrons. This article also attempts to address the library literature's lack of best practices for cross-campus Web design partnerships; as such, the "Discussion and Recommendations" section below offers experience-based suggestions for librarians interested in pursuing such collaborative relationships. LITERATURE REVIEWAlthough many articles have been written on the topic of library website design and management, the library literature does not appear to contain much information about
Objective: To make electronic resources available to library users while effectively harnessing intellectual capital within the library, ultimately fostering the library's use of technology to interact asynchronously with its patrons (users). Methods: The methods used in the project included: (1) developing a new library website to facilitate the creation, management, accessibility, maintenance and dissemination of library resources; and (2) establishing ownership by those who participated in the project, while creating effective work allocation strategies through the implementation of a content management system that allowed the library to manage cost, complexity and interoperability. Results: Preliminary results indicate that contributors to the system benefit from an increased understanding of the library's resources and add content valuable to library patrons. These strategies have helped promote the manageable creation and maintenance of electronic content in accomplishing the library's goal of interacting with its patrons. Conclusions: Establishment of a contributive system for adding to the library's electronic resources and electronic content has been successful. Further work will look at improving asynchronous interaction, particularly highlighting accessibility of electronic content and resources. Keywords: case reports, communication, health resources, information services, information dissemination, information management, information storage and retrieval, information systems, libraries, medical, library services. Key Messages Implications for Practice dImprove user awareness and access to resources through asynchronous interaction. Develop strong practice oriented models and frameworks.
