At present, cluster based routing protocols have been the main solution of routing scalability problem in mobile ad-hoc networks. Based on the deep research on cluster based routing protocols, cluster based routing protocols were divided into two parts. The research progress of the main routing protocols of each part were reviewed and analyzed. This work will contribute to the further study of cluster based routing protocols.
