A cloud-based approach for WEEE remanufacturing

Abstract: The modern manufacturing industry calls for a new generation of integration models that are more interoperable, intelligent, adaptable and distributed. Evolved from service-oriented architecture, web-based manufacturing and cloud computing, cloud manufacturing is considered worldwide a new enabling technology for manufacturing enterprises to respond quickly and effectively to the changing global market. For Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) in particular, it is a critical necessity to recycle, r… Show more

“…They describe collaboration by network-based resources and capability sharing in the form of services between different cloud users (consumers, providers, and operators). In light of IoT through machine connectivity, ''cloud manufacturing is an integrated cyber-physical system that can provide on-demand manufacturing services both digitally and physically to best utilize manufacturing resources'' [240,237].…”

“…This ecologically damaging pattern of escalating consumption to recover the investment costs of production is starting to be addressed by initiatives such as the circular economy. Moveable factories can contribute to such initiatives by reducing financial drivers and by enabling, for example, in-situ remanufacturing that extends the life of existing goods [53].…”

“…The users in CLSC-KSN are not anonymous, because they are inherent in the collaboration among members in the supply chain so that the knowledge shared through this forum is more reliable, within the preset quality standard, and protected from vandalism. Wang & Wang [29] and Wang et al [30], considering the modern manufacturing industry and a new generation of integration models, had reviewed the cloudbased information system for WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) recovery and remanufacturing, and proposed a novel serviceoriented remanufacturing platform based on cloudmanufacturing concept. They had shown that this approach enables remanufacturing firms to respond quickly and effectively.…”
