A Classification Model to Evaluate the Security Level in a City Based on GIS-MCDA

Abstract: The aim of this paper is to map the most favorable locations for the occurrence of robberies in the Brazilian city through the multicriteria method Dominance-Based Rough Set Approach. Considering the city divisions with alternatives and evaluating by several spatial criteria, a decision-maker is building a preference model with based previous knowledge. Next, decision rules induced from preference information are introduced to the spatial environment to get the results. The decision rules can be seen as condit… Show more

“…Much less popular in spatial applications are the DRST and FRST theories for spatial data. DRST method was used for example for defining security level in regions of Brasilian city of Recife [44]. Another example is a use of DRST method for identifying which type of requalification to assign to certain traditional farm buildings in Italy [45].…”

“…Doumpos et al [28] draw special attention to areas such as medicine, human resources, marketing, finance, and energy management. Other examples include civil construction [29], evaluating suppliers in supply chains [30], portfolio decision analysis [31], assessing human resource skills management [32], public safety [33], jobsatisfaction [34], location selection [35], and ranking credit risk algorithms. The use of MCDM/A for Risk Management decisions has been increasing lately.…”

“…In this paper, we combine the Full Disposal Hull (FDH) [20] directional efficiency measure for policing conditional to crime as an exogenous factor with the PROMETHEE outranking for a complete classification of Pernambuco's municipalities based on the efficiency of each police department in solving three types of crimes violent crimes (CVLI), street robberies (mugging) and carjack (or more generally motor vehicle theft and robbery) using officers as input and based on the effectiveness of reaching Pact for Life state goal on reducing homicides [5,21,22]. Some assessments of crime and policing in Pernambuco has used multicriteria and geospatial tools for ranking, clustering and classifying units and regions according to the vulnerability to homicides [23,24,25], preference learning [26,27], and property crimes [28,29]. Despite providing valuable support for policymakers, to the best of our knowledge, ranking regions or police units for public security purposes based on a multicriteria combination of Nonparametric Robust Estimators for the technical efficiency with measures for effectiveness of results is not featured in the current literature.…”
