“…By integrating the equivalent acceleration in excess of the yield acceleration as a function of time, the permanent displacement of the sliding landfill can be estimated. The nonlinear dynamic response analyses proposed by Bray et al [7] and Gunturi et al [8] can consider the nonlinear properties of the waste and is mainly used at high levels of earthquake shaking. Rathje et al [9] analysed the seismic response of the landfill by the 1D wave propagation analysis program SHAKE91 and the two-dimentsional (2D) finite element program QUAD4M, and the results showed that 1D analysis could provide reasonable estimation of the seismic response and earthquake-induced permanent displacement for deep sliding surfaces, such as the one along the base liner.…”
