A Chrono-Colorimetric Sensor Array for Differentiation of Catechins Based on Silver Nitrate-Induced Metallization of Gold Nanoparticles at Different Reaction Time Intervals

Abstract: Catechins are major antioxidant constituents of green tea, which have attracted much attention as human health promoters. To identify catechins, we built a chrono-colorimetric sensor array for identification of catechins based on various silver metallization of gold nanoparticle (AuNPs)-induced color changes at different reaction time intervals. Ag + is reduced to Ag by various catechins and deposited on the surface of AuNPs in varying degrees. Diverse color RGB (red/green/blue) form core−shell AuNP@AgNPs at d… Show more

“…Multiple peaks in the 840–1150 cm −1 range can be attributed to mixed peaks of C‐H, C‐O, C‐O‐C, and other functional groups. The benzene ring telescopic vibration included in the molecules can be attributed to small peaks on the DPC curve at 1587 and 1483 cm −1 (L. Li, Wang, et al, 2019), however, this unique absorption peak disappeared on CDNS. As a result of the above analysis, we concluded that CD molecules and DPCs successfully formed CDNS.…”

“…Catechin (Cat) is a member of flavonol, usually obtained from natural plants like tea, and has a good free radical scavenging ability which has been regarded to be responsible for anticancer, antidiabetic, antitumor, and anti-inflammatory activities (Fu et al, 2021;Y. Li, Wang, et al, 2019).…”

“…Furthermore, it has been demonstrated that catechin is a much more effective antioxidant in a complex with metals than in its free form [ 101 ]. All these properties have determined the ability to use the synthesis of silver nanoparticles by catechin to develop sensors [ 102 ]. Catechin has been extensively studied for its therapeutic potential and AgNPs synthesized by catechin showed significant antibacterial, anticancer and protein-binding properties [ 103 ].…”

“…Inspired by the olfactory and gustatory responses to smell and taste, sensor arrays have earned their spur as an up-and-coming alternative to the conventional “lock-to-key” sensors, which enable the identification of multiple analytes by analyzing the integrated pattern responses from a set of sensor receptors. Till now, nanomaterials-based visual sensor arrays for antioxidant identification are still rare. …”
