A challenging abdomino-scrotal hydrocele—successful resolution with the help of interventional radiology guided sclerosis

Abstract: Abdomino-scrotal hydrocele is a rare condition that presents in male infants. There is no consensus in the literature over treatment. We present the case of a 4-year-old boy with what was thought to be a straight forward congenital hydrocele that persisted despite ligation of a patent processus vaginalis and a Jaboulay procedure. A subsequent Magnetic Resonance Imaging scan identified a large intra-abdominal component connecting to the scrotum. Laparoscopic excision of the intra-abdominal component was perform… Show more

“…There was not a single instance of a recurrence of hydrocele in either of the two collections of patients. 11 discuss a case of a 4-year-old child who had a congenital hydrocele that did not go away even after the ligation of a patent processus vaginalis and a Jaboulay surgery, which were expected to resolve the condition. A later MRI scan revealed a sizable intra-abdominal component that was connected to the scrotum.…”

“…The hydrocele in the majority of infants resolves spontaneously during the first two years of life 6 . If the problem persists, surgical treatment is usually the best option 1 . However, it is estimated that the rate of complications after surgery and anesthesia is as high as 80% 7 .…”
