A Case of Villous Tumor of the Appendix With Cancerous Change

Abstract

We experienced an extremely rare case of villous tumor of the appendix with cancerous change which intussuscepted into the cecum.A 60-year-old woman complained of right lower abdominal pain, and appendectomy was performed under a diagnosis of acute appendicitis. However, histologic diagnosis of the excised specimen was villous tumor of the appendix which involved cancer cells invading pm, When right hemicolectomy (R3) was added, a metastatic lesion was found in the lymph node No. 202. As of one year and 6 months after surgery her clinical course is uneventful, no evidence of recurrence being noted.Villous tumors are commonly found in the rectum and sigmoid colon, and are liable to cancerate. In this country additional 4 cases of villous tumor of the appendix have been reported. Three of the 5 cases are associated with cancerous change.-142-
