A Case of Unusual Vascularization of Upper Abdominal Cavity’ Organs

Abstract: We describe a case report of multiple arterial variations of internal organs of upper abdominal cavity in a cadaver of 63-year-old female. There were several developmental variations of the vascular supply of the stomach, pancreas, spleen, and liver. There were several accessory arteries: left gastric, left hepatic, and posterior gastric artery as well as several arteries that had abnormal origin. The variations were discovered during macroscopical dissection at the department of human anatomy. It should be no… Show more

“…18,19 Nevertheless, anatomical variations of the vascular supply of the liver often cannot be classified. 20 In such cases, they must be evaluated individually, taking into account the morphological particularities and their clinical significance. Abnormal vascular supply to the liver can be seen in at least 20% of cases.…”

“…23 Knowledge of the anatomical variations of the pancreas is essential for invasive and mini-invasive procedures on the pancreas, its ducts and biliary system. 24 Careful preoperative evaluation of the abdominal anatomy is important in surgical practice. 25 The limitations of the present study are the relatively small number of cases which is to some degree accounted for by the fact that the material is based on cadaver dissection and the anomaly is extremely rare.…”

“…Abdominal surgery is founded on a profound understanding of the anatomy including developmental variations [4]. To avoid some operative complications, we must take into account the diversity of shapes, surfaces, boundaries and dimensions of the spleen and its relationships with adjacent organs [5,6]. Different splenic shapes and variations can lead to misdiagnosis particularly in patients with abdominal traumas.…”
