A Case of Unusual Syringoma: Unilateral Linear Distribution and Plaque Formation

Abstract: We describe a 25-year-old woman with syringoma, clinically manifested by unilateral linear distribution and a plaque formation. Syringoma papules are located on the extensor aspect of the left upper arm, the left antecubital fossa, and the left side of the chest. The papules distributed in linear fashion on the left upper arm, and partially formed plaques on the left upper arm and the left antecubital fossa. “…The appearance of these lesions from the images in the reports differs markedly from our patient in that they are discrete yellow or hyperpigmented papules measuring 2–5 mm in diameter. One published case 4 does report plaques; however, the clinical image published showed plaques much smaller than those seen in our patient. In addition, the lesions did not coalesce like those of our patient, they were yellow in colour, and the lesions appeared at the age of 24 years.…”

“…Common sites include the eyelids, face, neck, anterior chest, axillae, umbilicus and pubic area. Other variants include solitary and giant lesions, a plaque form, milia‐like lesions, tumours limited to the penis and vulva, 2 buttocks 3 or scalp 4 as well as acral, bathing‐trunk or linear distributions 5 . To our knowledge, the unusual presentation of syringomas on the buttocks, as illustrated in our case, has only been reported once in the literature 3 …”

“…Sclerosing epithelioid fibrosarcoma is an unusual variant of fibrosarcoma composed of cytologically bland epithelioid cells embedded in a densely hyalinized collagenous matrix. [2][3][4][5] It has a predisposition for local recurrence 3,4 and metastatic potential primarily to the lungs. 2,3 Differential diagnoses include myoepithelioma (ME), clear cell sarcoma (CCS) and ossifying fibromyxoid tumor (OFT).…”
