Abstract: Mycobacterium tuberculosis is still an important cause of meningitis in developing countries. Since clinicians cannot delay treatment in order to receive a definite diagnosis, therapy is often begun on a presumptive basis according to the results of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) examination.
