A Case of Stenotic Change from Gastric Candidiasis Managed with Temporary Stent Insertion

Abstract: Invasive gastric Candida infection in patient with co-morbidity can cause stenotic change if it is developed at anatomically narrowing portion, such as distal antrum, pylorus, or duodenal bulb. However, proper management of benign stenosis by diffuse gastric Candidasis is still under controversy and palliative bypass surgery has several shortcomings because high risk operative group may be included in this case. Palliative placement of self-expandable metallic stent has been settled as a standard management of… Show more

“…Temporary removable endoscopic stent might be an effective treatment for benign gastric outlet obstruction caused by recurrent duodenal ulcer, postoperative stricture after gastroduodenostomy, or iatrogenic stricture after endoscopic resection 140,141. However, routine use of stent placement cannot be recommended for benign gastric outlet obstruction due to lack of data from large prospective randomized controlled studies.…”

“…Self-expandable metal stent (SEMS)designated originally for the treatment of malignant obstructive lesions-represent a sophisticated therapeutic option (1). To date, several reports of SEMS placement for benign pyloric stenosis have been published; however, data regarding their long term efficacy and safety in particular, remain limited (2)(3)(4)(5)(6). Herein, we present the management of a late onset stent induced iatrogenic complication in a patient suffering from peptic ulcer disease consequence, aiming to underline that innovation does not necessarily correlate with quality of care.…”

“…A case report described stenotic change in the gastric pylorus of a 69-year-old man infected with invasive gastric candidiasis (26). A case report described stenotic change in the gastric pylorus of a 69-year-old man infected with invasive gastric candidiasis (26).…”

“…A number of additional theoretical infectious etiologies exist for hypertrophic pyloric stenosis as supported by case reports from the adult patient population, although none have been investigated in the pediatric context. A case report described stenotic change in the gastric pylorus of a 69-year-old man infected with invasive gastric candidiasis (26). Notably, gastric fungal colonization has been reported due to hypoacidity secondary to the use of proton pump inhibitors (27).…”
